Let’s Get Reading
Hey awesome readers and amazing grown-ups! Here’s the lowdown on how our Roar for Reading challenge will work this year. It’s super simple and all about having fun with reading.
Set Your Reading Goal
First things first, every student in Kindergarten through 8th grade will pick their own daily reading goal. Maybe it’s 30 minutes a day, maybe it’s 15, or maybe it’s an hour. It’s totally up to each student and what feels right for them.
Track Your Reading Adventures
Students will bring home a Roar for Reading tracker the week of October 6th. This is where they will track their reading minutes.
- From Monday, October 13th to Sunday, October 19th (seven total reading days), use the reading tracker section to write down how many minutes the student reads each day.
- Every day the student reads, make sure to write down the exact time spent reading that day. Don’t worry if the student doesn’t hit their goal every single time – every minute counts!
- And guess what? Magazines, newspapers, school reading, listening to audiobooks, and being read to all count as reading time too. So cozy up and enjoy those stories.
- Play Bingo! Enjoy the reading challenges that are included on the tracker. You can even play Bingo as a family! If you get a 5 across be sure to collect your Roar For Reading prize when you turn in your tracker.
Don’t Forget Your Tracker
This is super important: ALL students need to return their tracker, even if all the pledges were online or if the student didn’t collect any pledges at all. This tracker is how the student gets credit for all those reading minutes and, most excitingly, it’s their entry for a prize.
Before the student hands it in, a grown-up will need to sign the tracker, Please turn in your signed tracker on Monday through Wednesday October 20-22. Stop by the Roar for Reading table under the covered structure to turn it in just before or after school.
